Universal testing machines AGX-V
The AGX-V series from Shimadzu includes precision universal testing machines for analysing the mechanical properties and strength of steels and plastics.
The high operator safety, frame rigidity, measuring accuracy, sampling rate as well as the very good alignment and the number of external signals that can be integrated are the most important advantages that speak in favour of an AGX-V from Shimadzu.
AGX-V models are used in research and development, but also in quality control departments and production laboratories.
Properties
Frame
The AGX-V universal testing machines from Shimadzu have a test frame that leads to very accurate measurement results, especially with hard materials.
The stiffness of the frame is an indicator of maximum performance. AGX-V frames are not only among the stiffest in the world, they also feature exceptional axis alignment. The high stiffness enables precision measurements for high modulus materials such as steel, titanium, carbon reinforced plastics, etc.
Tabletop models are available with 10kN and 50kN rated capacity, while floor standing models are available with 50kN, 100kN, 300kN or 600kN capacity.
Models with a test space width of 1000mm! This is particularly useful for component testing on large objects or when using large thermal chambers. Wide versions are available for nominal loads of 10kN, 50kN, 100kN and 300kN.
There are also models with a reinforced upper fixed crosshead, i.e. with two test chambers. This can be helpful if tensile and compression tests have to be carried out regularly and a conversion is not desired.
The floor models are the first universal testing machines to meet Class 10 of ASTM E1012. The high accuracy of the axis alignment increases the reliability of the data for high-strength materials and composites.
Controller
The AGX-V controller is equipped with multiple processors and modules that provide exceptional performance in terms of ultra-fast data acquisition and control.
- Crosshead control with 1 kHz
- Data acquisition max. 10 kHz
The models with a free-standing controller (separate control device model) are specially designed for dusty applications. Especially when testing fibre composite samples, dust and splinters can get into the controller. If the controller is free-standing, this effect is avoided.
The high sampling rates of up to 10 kHz enable users to detect even the shortest events, such as fibre breaks when testing composite materials. It is also important in strain-controlled testing, where the strain signal must be immediately translated into precise crosshead movements.
In addition, the controller supports the integration of up to six electronic cards for measuring amplifiers and signal converters. Up to 20 external analogue signals can thus be combined with the force and crosshead travel measurements. In addition, two analogue outputs are available for external force and displacement recording.
An operation controller is available for autonomous operation without a PC and software. In addition to the most important operating elements and an emergency stop button, it offers a live view of the current measurement signals and the measurement curve.
Control panels
Shimadzu offers a choice of two control panels for the AGX-V model series. The Smart Controller and the Operation Controller. Both are used for machine operation during set-up and testing. The former is intended for operation in conjunction with the TrapeziumX-V testing software, while the Operation Controller is designed for stand-alone configurations.
Voice control
The XV-Talk™ voice control is useful for simple or repetitive tasks. Especially if your hands are not free. But don’t worry, the machine asks back before it does anything, because Shimadzu is very concerned about safety.
Safety
Ensuring safety is a top priority for Shimadzu. It begins with recognising sources of danger and carefully selecting suitable protective measures.
If flying debris is to be expected during the tests, protective shielding must be used. When clamping the sample, there is a risk of trapping hands and fingers. If a test does not go as it should, then it must be possible to stop the machine as quickly as possible.
To minimise these risks, AGX-V universal testing machines are equipped, for example, with safety devices and mechanisms that protect against flying parts, stop using unusual forces and have emergency stop buttons where they are needed, regardless of whether the operator is right-handed or left-handed.
Another risk is the possibility of the grips colliding during the test. To prevent this, Shimadzu offers electromechanical and digital end stops that limit the movement of the grips within safe limits.
- Emergency stop for left- and right-handers
- Resistance detection function
- Mechanical end stops
- Protective doors / panes
- Software limits
Load cells
Whether high precision, low nominal force or large measuring range, Shimadzu offers a wide range of load cells for every application.
- Load cells with nominal loads of 10N, 20N, 50N, 100N up to the nominal capacity of the testing machine.
- Accuracy classes 0.3, 0.5 and 1
- Measuring range: from 1/2000, 1/1000 or 1/500 of the nominal capacity up to the full nominal capacity of the loadcell.
Measurement of displacement and strain
The movement of the crosshead is measured with high precision in terms of displacement, position and speed. The high rigidity of the frame plays a decisive role, especially when measuring without an extensometer.
For precise strain measurements, Shimadzu offers a wide range of extensometers with different technologies to complement its universal testing machines. Strain transducers from specialised manufacturers can also be seamlessly integrated.
Accurate strain measurement is of utmost importance not only for the determination of E-modulus, yield and yield strength, but also for precise crosshead movement in strain-controlled tests.
Software TrapeziumX-V
TrapeziumX-V is the new, versatile and user-friendly software. It offers a range of modules for different types of tests, including “single”, “cycle”, “control”, “texture” and “spring”. The “single” module serves as a basic module for tensile, compression, bending and peel tests. It also allows the creation of a compensation file that can be used to compensate for machine stiffness during compression tests. It is included in the basic equipment of the AGX-V model series, while the “cycle”, “control”, “texture” and “spring” modules are available as optional additions.
- “Single“: For testing in one direction of movement but with four individually parameterisable segments
- “Cycle“: For cyclic tests with definable ramps or hold times and up to 1000 repetitions.
- “Control“: For individual charging, holding and discharging sequences, as well as loop possibilities with up to 1000 repetitions.
- “Texture“: For texture tests on solid or viscous foods, resins, gels, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics or plastics.
- “Spring“: For the spring tests with hysteresis preload.
Accessories
Shimadzu has designed the so-called multi-joint adapters for correct and perfectly aligned mounting of the clamping heads and fixtures on the universal testing machines of the AGX-V model series. These are easy-to-fit, rigid or articulated adapters for tension and compression configurations.
Due to the large variety of specimen shapes and test configurations, we offer a wide range of grips, pressure devices and other fixtures. The samples may also require special environmental conditions during a test. We supply the appropriate ovens and climate chambers from a pool of standard products or according to customer specifications.
- Sample punching equipment
- Extensometers, transducers, displacement transducers
- Clamping devices, fixtures, pressure plates and cages
- Ovens, thermostatic chambers
