Extensometers
Strain measurements are essential for determining material behaviour. Shimadzu extensometers of various designs are available for most testing tasks with universal testing machines from Shimadzu.
Long-stroke extensometers
SIE-560A
The SIE-560A is suitable for precise strain measurements up to the specimen break. It complies with ISO 9513, class 1.
- Magnetic-inductive linear sensor
- Initial gauge lengths from 12.5mm individually adjustable
- Measuring range up to 560mm
- Measuring accuracy: The greater of 0.5% of the display value or +/-2.5 micrometres
- Sample dimensions:
- Steel: 0.5mm to 4.0mm (flat)
- Aluminium: 1mm to 3mm (flat)
- Plastic: 1mm to 4mm (flat)
SIE 560SA
The SIE-560AS is especially suitable for modulus of elasticity measurements and has a second integrated strain gauge-based strain sensor for this purpose. It complies with ISO 9513, class 0.5.
- Combination of strain gauge bending beam and magnetic-inductive linear sensor
- Initial measuring length using L0 rods with L0=50mm (standard). Further rods optional.
- Measuring ranges:
- Strain gauge sensor up to 2mm
- Magnetic inductive sensor up to 560mm
- Measuring accuracy: The greater of 0.5% of the display value or +/-1 micrometre
- Sample dimensions:
- Steel: 0.5mm to 4.0mm (flat)
- Aluminium: 1mm to 3mm (flat)
- Plastic: 1mm to 4mm (flat)
DSES-1000
The DSES-1000 is a long-stroke measuring device for soft samples. It is able to measure displacements with high precision and resolution over an extra-long measuring path of 1000 mm. It can be used in conjunction with Shimadzu materials testing machines from the AG series or the EZ-Test series.
- Sensor: Cable potentiometer
- Initial gauge lengths from 10mm
L0 spacer bars: 50 mm, 75 mm, 100 mm, 150 mm, 200 mm, 0.5 inch, 1 inch, 2 inch - Measuring range up to 1000mm
- Measuring accuracy: The greater of 0.2% of the display value or +/-100 micrometres
- Sample dimensions:
- Diameter 0.5 to 15 mm (round)
Clip-on extensometers
SSG
This precision strain transducer uses a strain gauge. It is characterised by low weight, a wide strain measurement range and the ability to measure small gauge lengths, and is suitable for both round and flat specimens.
- Versions:
- SSG10-10, L0= 10mm, measuring range 1mm
- SSG25-10, L0=25mm, measuring range 2.5mm
- SSG50-10, L0=50mm, measuring range 5mm
- SSG50-10, high-precision version for modulus of elasticity measurements. L0=50mm, measuring range 5mm
SSG-H
This extensometer is designed to measure the elongation of metal and hard plastic materials. It can be attached to and removed from the sample with one hand at the touch of a button.
- Versions:
- SSG25-50H, L0= 25mm
- SSG25-100H, L0=25mm
- SSG50-10H, L0=50mm
- SSG50-10SH, high-precision version for modulus of elasticity measurements. L0=50mm
- SSG75-6SHAD
Video extensometers
TRViewX Series
These high-precision non-contact extensometers measure the elongation of the gauge length by processing images of the sample taken by a CCD camera.
This extensometer enables high-precision and wide-ranging strain measurement for all types of materials such as metals, rubber, plastics and wood.
