Design

Multi-axial testing systems are increasingly being used for realistic and highly dynamic stress tests on modern components. The servo-hydraulic test bench from INOVA shown here impressively demonstrates how complex load cycles with six degrees of freedom (6 DOF) can be simulated precisely, reproducibly and in accordance with standards.

The system is equipped with six servo-hydraulic actuators (three vertical and three horizontal). All cylinders have a hydrostatic piston rod bearing, which ensures extremely low friction and high lateral force stability. This is particularly important for precise control and a long service life of the system, especially with high transverse forces and dynamic test profiles.

The vertical and horizontal actuators are connected to the vibration table via backlash-free ball joints. This kinematic arrangement allows the test specimen to be subjected to targeted loads via accelerations in different spatial directions. In this way, real operating conditions, such as those encountered in the automotive industry, mechanical engineering or safety-relevant components, can be realistically simulated.
A key feature of the test bench shown are the large hydraulic pressure accumulators, which ensure exceptionally high dynamics of the overall system. They provide large volume flows at short notice and enable fast load changes and high-frequency test cycles.

During continuous mechanical loading, the test object can also be actuated pneumatically. This allows combined loading scenarios to be realised in which mechanical, dynamic and functional stresses occur simultaneously – a significant advantage in fatigue strength and service life tests.

The entire test process is controlled and monitored by INOVA’s powerful EU3000 measurement and control electronics. In conjunction with the user-friendly TestControl software, demanding test programmes can be precisely controlled, monitored and documented. This forms the basis for highly accurate, reproducible and customisable test simulations.
