Micro-MFA1 extensometer

The Micro-MFA1 clip-on extensometer enables high-precision strain measurements in tensile tests – ideal for small and notch-sensitive specimens.

The Micro-MFA1 is a high-precision, particularly lightweight clip-on extensometer for tensile and compression tests. Developed for confined spaces and small specimen geometries, it allows precise determination of the modulus of elasticity, yield strength and technical yield point. The measuring accuracy significantly exceeds the requirements of EN ISO 9513 (accuracy class 0.2).

Properties

  • Accuracy class 0.2 (EN ISO 9513)
  • Measuring length 10 mm
  • Sample thickness or diameter: up to 25 mm
  • Small and robust housing
  • Messtechnik: DMS Vollbrücke
  • Adjustable clamping force
  • Measuring range: 1 mm in tension and 1 mm in compression

Intended use

The Micro-MFA1 is a high-precision, particularly lightweight clip-on extensometer for tensile and compression tests. Developed for confined spaces and small specimen geometries, it allows precise determination of the modulus of elasticity, yield strength and technical yield point. The measuring accuracy significantly exceeds the requirements of EN ISO 9513 (accuracy class 0.2). TeMeCo Services AG offers the Mikro-MFA1 configured, integrated and calibrated to suit your needs for a wide range of testing machines.

Precise strain measurement with minimal space requirements

The Micro-MFA1 extensometer was specially developed for applications where conventional extensometers reach their limits. With a height of only 11 mm and a weight of just 25 g (without clamp), the sensor is ideal for small, thin or notch-sensitive specimens. Thanks to its very low activation force, the specimen is practically unaffected.

The measuring range is ±1 mm in the tensile and compressive directions. The standard measuring length is 10 mm and can be reduced to 7 mm by adjusting the low-wear cutting edges.

Design and measuring principle

Inside the high-strength aluminium housing is a measuring spring equipped with a temperature-compensated full-bridge strain gauge. This is calibrated to 2 mV/V and allows high-resolution and stable strain measurement over a wide temperature range from +1 °C to +60 °C.

The sophisticated clamping system allows quick, one-handed attachment directly to the specimen. For particularly high measurement reliability or for averaging, two Micro-MFA1 extensometers can be used on both sides of the specimen.

Typical applications

The Micro-MFA1 is particularly suitable for:

  • Tensile tests on metals and alloys
  • Testing small and thin samples
  • Notch-sensitive materials
  • Determination of:
    • Modulus of elasticity (modulus E)
    • Proportionality and elasticity limits
    • Yield strength
  • Research and development
  • Quality control with high sample throughput

Thanks to the flexible clamps and cutting geometries (round or rectangular), both flat and round samples up to 25 mm in width or diameter can be tested.

Suitable standards (selection)

The Mikro‑MFA1 extensometer is ideally suited for tensile tests in accordance with common international standards, including:

  • EN ISO 9513 – Calibration of extensometers (accuracy class 0.2)
  • EN ISO 6892-1 – Tensile test on metallic materials (room temperature)
  • ASTM E8 / E8M – Tension Testing of Metallic Materials
  • ASTM E111 – Young’s Modulus, Tangent Modulus and Chord Modulus
  • ISO 527 – Tensile test on plastics (in suitable geometries)

Specific compliance with standards depends on the testing machine, calibration and the entire measurement chain.

Configuration, integration and calibration

TeMeCo configures the extensometer individually for your existing or new testing machine.

  • Selecting the right terminals and blades
  • Assembly plug for measuring amplifier
  • Calibration in accordance with EN ISO 9513 on site or in our SCS-accredited calibration laboratory
  • Maintenance and recalibration

This is how we ensure that you receive reproducible and standard-compliant measurement results – from development to series testing.
