Why water treatment?
The water treatment serves to prevent calcification of the steam humidification system and the humidity sensor.
BINDER units with a steam module for generating humidity should only be operated with fully demineralised water!
Both the humidity sensor and the steam module are not capable of detecting mineral substances such as lime. Therefore, the water must be demineralised. With the demineralisation process, the conductivity of the water also changes. For BINDER climatic chambers, it should be in the range of 1μS/cm to 20μS/cm.
This is mounted between the normal water house connection and the climate control cabinet.
Hardness-causing ions such as Ca ++++, CO 3 and other dissolved ions are bound to the resin and exchanged with OH and H 3 O ions. The water hardness and the electrical conductivity decrease.
The tap water is treated in three steps:
- Coarse filtration across the cross-section of the pre-filter ensures a laminar flow of water through the entire ion exchange resin
- Softening
- The fine particle filter prevents resin or tap water particles from entering the climate chamber.
An electronic system detects the conductivity of the water and indicates the condition of the exchange cartridge (= consumable) by means of diodes.
Certain units have an integrated fresh water canister with water pump. In this case, the canister must be periodically filled manually with demineralised water. The water quality must also be between 1μS/cm and 20μS/cm in this case. The condensate flows into a small container and is automatically pumped out by it at a certain water level. For this purpose, the waste water hose of the unit must be led into a corresponding house connection or canister.
The larger units of the MKF and MKFT model series can be optionally modified with a lever for recirculating the condensate. In this case, the condensate is returned to the fresh water canister. This option should be used with caution, as the load in the climate chamber can contaminate the water, causing it to change.
