mi40 Melt index tester

The mi40 is the flagship among the melt index testers. No other device offers more possibilities. The quality, the number of options and the after-sales service are unrivalled.

The mi40 melt index tester can be used to measure practically all technically used thermoplastics with very high precision and repeatability. The high-resolution displacement transducer is also perfectly suited for extremely low MVR values below 0.1 ccm/10min. Thanks to the electrical support during squeezing, the tests can also be carried out quickly with highly viscous material.

Even very high MVR values of up to 4000 cm3/min can be measured without any problems thanks to the external piston guide and an optional capillary seal. The automatic weight selection enables measurements with different weights during a channel filling. This allows further insights into shear thinning and thus processability to be gained without additional expense.

Basic information on mi40

The fact that the mi40 is dedicated to the determination of MFR and MVR according to ASTM D1238 and ISO 1133 does not really need to be explained in detail, after all, almost every other melt flow index tester does the same. So what’s the difference and why should you take a closer look at this device?

Difference to simpler MFI devices:

  • Higher degree of automation. The drive can be used for force-controlled pre-compaction or pressing with a total force of up to 80 kg. The automatic test plan-controlled weight selection with up to nine integrated weights simplifies operation considerably. The automatic pre-compaction with weight or drive reduces the operator influence on the measurement result. The high degree of automation minimises operator influence on the measurement results and thus reduces the scatter. The operator can also carry out other tasks between filling and cleaning.
  • Multi-weight measurements with up to eight different weights per channel filling can be carried out fully automatically. The “small flow curve” determined in this way provides an indication of the workability of the material.
  • The viscosity measurement option transforms the mi40 into a mi40 visco. This enables the device to perform viscosity measurements in accordance with the ISO 11443 standard for capillary rheometers.
  • Thanks to the highly accurate time and distance measurement, even very low or very high measured values can be recorded precisely.
  • The external piston guide enables even very sticky materials to be measured with high repeat accuracy.
  • Numerous options and accessories.

Basic device mi40

Intelligent Service Monitoring
The service data is stored and monitored in the device. The appliance reports automatically if a new service is due.

Automatic determination of resolution
The MVR measuring points are recorded using a displacement sensor that detects the stamp feed. In order to measure accurately even at extremely low or extremely high MVR values, the measuring distance should be adjusted for each measuring point. This resolution can be determined automatically by the tester. Alternatively, you can choose between three presets.

Stand-alone operation on the touch screen
The measurement and visualisation software for melt index testers is used to configure and control the entire measurement process, graphical display, evaluation and report generation.

Features
In addition to its basic functions, the operating software offers numerous special features, such as: Structured, self-explanatory menu navigation
Intelligent service monitoring, various languages in the menu navigation, RemoteNet

Structured, self-explanatory menu navigation
The menu structure on the touch screen is kept simple. Only relevant information is displayed. More complex processes such as creating a test plan follow a self-explanatory scheme. Various password-protected user levels from basic user to administrator ensure that only trained personnel can make important settings.

Rheological testing equipment since 1962

GÖTTFERT Werkstoff-Prüfmaschinen GmbH was founded in 1962 by Prof. Dr. Otto Göttfert. In the second generation, his son Dr Axel Göttfert took over as sole managing director.
On the world market, the medium-sized company is known as one of the leading companies in the niche area of rheological testing equipment. The innovative rheological systems are used worldwide in laboratories as well as in production.
To be closer to many customers, a subsidiary was opened in Rock Hill, South Carolina, USA, in 1989. In 2011, GOETTFERT (China) Limited was founded with headquarters in Beijing and Shanghai.
