Two processes for different requirements
Basically, sample cutting can be divided into two main processes: abrasive cutting and precision cutting. Both processes have their specific strengths and areas of application.
Abrasive cutting – robust and efficient
Abrasive cutting is mainly used to process metal samples with cutting discs made of silicon carbide or aluminium oxide. These are designed with resin or rubber bonds and enable even larger or harder samples to be cut economically.
A decisive factor for the quality of the cut is the correct choice of cutting disc. Only with an optimally matched disc can burns and excessive heat build-up be avoided. This not only protects the sample surface from structural changes, but also ensures high cutting performance and service life.
Precision cutting – maximum accuracy
Precision cutting, also known as wafer cutting, is performed using thin diamond cutting discs. This process is particularly suitable for ceramics, minerals and sensitive metallic materials.
