BINDER – Climatic endurance testing of car components

The increasing requirements and warranty periods pose a challenge for automotive suppliers. Many companies have established their own test standards, and automotive manufacturers of painted and coated components have developed special test procedures.

Vehicle parts are exposed to various environmental influences and mechanical stresses that impair their function and appearance and shorten their service life. They are subjected to demanding stress tests to determine their resistance to climatic influences and temperature.

Painted and coated vehicle components are subjected to stringent tests in the test laboratory at Lothar Bix GmbH in Messkirch.

During their lifetime, these components are exposed to various environmental influences such as heat, cold, moisture and rain, which can impair their function and appearance. To check the durability of the materials, they are subjected to stress tests.

Increasing requirements and longer warranty periods are a challenge for automotive suppliers. Many companies have their own test standards and car manufacturers have also developed special test procedures for painted and coated parts.

Lothar Bix GmbH carries out environmental simulation tests in its own test laboratory to test the durability of the paintwork and coatings. The parts are tested for temperature and weather resistance, service life and ageing resistance in constant climate chambers and drying cabinets. This allows potential damage, such as loss of gloss and colour or adhesion problems, to be detected at an early stage. The aim of the tests is to find weak points quickly and avoid complaints.
